Cross, Stauros, Tree, Yeshua Messiah

Cross Or Stauros ??

IS THE CROSS BIBLICAL OR PAGAN ????

THE cross is loved and respected by millions of people.
The Encyclopedia Britannica calls the cross ”the principal symbol of the Christian religion”-

religion indeed.
Nevertheless, true followers/ disciples of Yeshua/ Jesus do not use the cross in worship.

Why not ??

An important reason is that Yeshua HaMashiach/ Jesus Christ did not die on a cross.
The Greek word generally translated “cross” is “stau·ros”.
It basically means “an upright pole or stake”.

The Romans used upright stakes for their executions.

The Companion Bible points out:
“Stau·ros” never means two pieces of timber placed across one another at any angle . . .
There is nothing in the Greek of the New Testament even to imply two pieces of timber.”

There is no cross anywhere in the Bible.

And you can just try to put 2 pieces of wood shaped like the cross:
its not easy or quick to connect them with each other very strongly- you have to be at least part time carpenter to do that.

In several texts, Bible writers use another word for the instrument of Yeshua`s/ Jesus’ death.
It is the Greek word “xyʹlon”.
This word simply means “timber” or “a stick, club, or tree.”

1-Peter-2.24

Acts 5:30; 10:39; 13:29; Galatians 3:13; Deuteronomy 21:22-23; 1 Peter 2:24:

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree.
39 And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.
29 Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb.
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”,
22 “If a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree,
23 his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance; for he who is hanged is accursed of God.
24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.

Acts 13:29-30

Explaining why a simple stake was often used for executions is that trees were not everywhere available at the places chosen for public execution.
So a simple beam was sunk into the ground.
On this the outlaws, with hands raised upward and often also with their feet, were bound or nailed.

The most convincing proof of all, however, comes from God’s Word.

The apostle Paul says:
“Christ purchased us, releasing us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse instead of us, because it is written:
‘Accursed is every man hung upon a stake (“a tree,” King James Version).” Galatians 3:13.
Here Paul quotes Deuteronomy 21:22-23, which clearly refers to a stake, not a cross.
Since such a means of execution made the person “a curse”, it would not be proper for followers/ disciples of Yeshua/ Jesus to decorate their homes with the Christ on a cross or an empty cross.

There is no evidence that for the first 300 years after Messiah`s death, those who were followers/ disciples of Yeshua/ Jesus used the cross in worship-

or in anything.

In the fourth century, however, pagan Emperor Constantine became a convert to apostate Christianity and promoted the cross as its symbol.
Whatever Constantine’s motives, the cross had nothing to do with Yeshua HaMashiach/ Jesus Christ.
The cross is, in fact, pagan in origin.

The New Catholic Encyclopedia admits:
“The cross is found in both pre-Christian and non-Christian cultures”.
Various other authorities have linked the cross with nature worship and pagan sex rites.

Pagan crosses

Why, then, was this pagan symbol promoted?
Apparently, to make it easier for pagans to accept the Christianity.
Nevertheless, devotion to any pagan symbol is clearly condemned by the Bible.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18:

14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”

17 Therefore

“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”

The Scriptures also forbid all forms of idolatry
Exodus 20:4,5; 1 Corinthians 10:14:

4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

With very good reason, therefore, true followers/ disciples of Yeshua/ Jesus do not use the cross in worship or in anything- only religious Christians do…

For example, during the Crusades with the cross as their symbol and various popes as their leader, they killed about 66 million people including many Jews and followers/ disciples of Yeshua/ Jesus-

much more than Hitler about 6 million.

And all about the Crusades was to force people to the new religion called Christianity…
I dare to say:
Churchanity.

We have here in Finland a ”Lake of Regrets”, Katumajärvi in Finnish-
about 100 km from Helsinki to north, near by town Hämeenlinna.
Finnish people including followers/ disciples of Yeshua/ Jesus were forced to take baby- baptism (even adults) with sprinkling three times water in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit…
Although followers/ disciples of Yeshua/ Jesus washed away their baby- baptism in the lake Katumajärvi (Lake of Regrets) and take again biblical baptism in the name of Yeshua/ Jesus.
