10 Reasons Why The Sabbath Is Not Only For Jews

Genesis 2:2,3

1) Adam and Eve were not Jewish.

“God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it” (Genesis 2:3) before sin entered. “Sanctified” means “to be set apart for holy use.”

The only ones in the Garden of Eden for whom the Sabbath was “set apart” were Adam and Eve, who weren’t Jewish.

2) “The Sabbath was made for man.” (Mark 2:27 )

Yeshua/ Jesus said this.

It was “made” in the Garden of Eden before it was “written” down on Mount Sinai.

The Sabbath was “made for man,” not just for Jews.

3) The other 9 commandments are “not just for Jews“.

God wrote “the 10 Commandments” on stone, not just 9.

Deuteronomy 4:12-13

12 And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire.

You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form; you only heard a voice.

13 So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform,

the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

10 Commandments

Does

“Do not commit adultery,”

“Do not murder,”

“Do not steal,” and

“Do not bear false witness”

apply only to Jews ??

4) “The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. (Exodus 20:10)

God calls the Sabbath, “My holy day.”

Isaiah 58:13

13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord honorable,
And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,

The Bible never calls it “the Sabbath of the Jews.”

It isn’t their Sabbath- but God’s.

Exodus 20:10

5) The Sabbath Commandment is for the “stranger” too.

The 4th Commandment itself says the “stranger” is to rest on the Sabbath.

Exodus 20:10

10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.

In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.

“Strangers” are non-Jews or Gentiles.

Thus the Sabbath applies to them too.

6) Isaiah said Gentiles should keep the Sabbath.

Isaiah 56:6, 7

6“Also the sons of the foreigner
Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants.
Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And holds fast My covenant.
Even them I will bring to My holy mountain,
And make them joyful in My house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
Will be accepted on My altar;
For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

Thus the Sabbath is for Gentiles and “all nations,” not just for Jews.

Isaiah 66:23

7) All mankind (all flesh) will keep the Sabbath in the New Earth.

Isaiah 66:22, 23

22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth
Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord,
“So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another,
All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.

Here God says that “all flesh” will be keeping the Sabbath in “the new earth.”

If this is the case – and it is – shouldn’t we start now?

Ezekiel 20:12

12 Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me,

that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.

‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I Am Yahweh who sanctifies you.

8) Gentiles kept the Sabbath in the Book of Acts.

Acts 13:42- 44

42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue,

the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.

43 Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.

Here saved-by-grace Gentiles kept the Sabbath.

9) “The Law” is for “all the world,” not just for Jews.

(The Hebrew word ”Torah” is usually translated ”Law” but a much better translation is ”direction, instruction or teaching”.)

Romans 2:17-23; 3:19, 23

17 Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God,

18 and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law,

19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,

20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law.

21 You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal?

22 You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?

23 You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law?

19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

10) Luke was a Gentile who kept the Sabbath.

Luke was the only Gentile who wrote any New Testament books (Luke and Acts).

Luke traveled with Paul and wrote:

Acts 16:13

13 And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside,

where prayer was customarily made;

and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there.

It was the seventh-day Sabbath, the memorial of the creation

Both Luke and Paul knew it.

By the way; did you know ??

The Shabbat is a day of rest that begins on Friday at sunset and ends on the

Saturday at sunset.

one day

Genesis 1:5

God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.

So the evening and the morning were the first day.

one day 1

So, who changed the Shabbat (Saturday) to Sunday ??

Or should I honestly say Sun- Day…

Suprise, suprise- the Catholic Church.

And soon the whole Christianity did fall into a ditch.

  1. Beautiful Sabbath! One question though. The most important day in the history of Man, the day our Messiah died for our sins, and then rose one the Third Day, that day is described in every translation of the Bible as starting with Sunrise, and the Lord is nailed to the cross at the third hour (9am). He passes from this world at the ninth hour (3pm). So, except for certain fast observances, the Day starts with the Light, sunrise.

    1. Our new day (24 hours) begins in the Western world in the midnight.
Nevertheless, we usually think it is not until morning or when the sun comes up that the new day begins.
The Jews reckoned the day from sunset to sunset ( Leviticus 23:32 ).
The Greeks, following the Babylonians, divided the day into 12 hours.
The Jews, during the Captivity, learned also from the Babylonians this method of dividing time.
(Jesus:) “Are there not 12 hours in the day?” (John 11:9).
      The night was divided into 4 watches ( Luke 12:38 ; Matthew 14:25 ; 13:25 ).
