The Biblical Tithes & Tithing

Truth about tithing from the Bible
Acts 17:11
11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

Priests, Levites & Temple

Many ministers today will tell you that you are sinning by not obeying

in giving tithes to the church.

However, the tithing truths are stated clearly in the Bible.

But no one can tithe as instructed in the scriptures.

It’s literally impossible.

However, it must be understood that all tithes were intended for either

the Priests, Levites or simply brought to the Temple for other purposes.

Since there is no Priests, Levites or Temple in existence today,

biblically speaking, you can’t tithe.

tithing-on-trial_thumb

Robbers

Sadly, the tithing truths are difficult to learn for many many people because

they listen to health-wealth-prosperity gospel preachers and wealthy charlatan

TV-evangelists who use Bible verses out of context to fund their extraluxury lifestyles.

They do not teach the truth about tithing- they just simply rob you.

They guilt you to send money to them with lies about tithing and blessings.

Truly, learning the truth about tithing will set you free-

as it is written in the Bible.

John 8:32

32 And you shall know the truth,

and the truth shall make you free.

Scriptures

Is tithing for today ??

Many Christian ministers today will tell you that you are sinning

by not obeying in giving tithes to his/ hers church or organisation.

But no one can tithe today as instructed in the Bible-

it is literally impossible.

In the Bible all tithes were intended for either the Priests, Levites

or simply brought to the Temple in Yerushalayim/ Jerusalem for other purposes.

Since there is no more Priests, Levites or Temple in Yerushalayim/ Jerusalem

in existence today, in accordance with the teachings of the Bible,

you just cannot tithe anymore.

Luke 9:2-3

2 He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

3 And He said to them,

“Take nothing for the journey,

and do not have two tunics apiece.

Luke 10:3-4

3 Go your way;

behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.

4 Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals;

and greet no one along the road.

did you lack anything?”

So they said, “Nothing.”

As followers of Yeshua (Jesus) we don’t accept even one coin for the work we do,

as we do our work for Yeshua (Jesus).

He looks after us.

If He wants something done, He gives us the means.

If He doesn’t provide us with the means,

then He doesn’t want that work done.

A tithe, to tithe & tithing

To tithe/ tithing is giving a tithe –>

a tithe = one tenth (1/10, 10%),  a 10th part

  • the Levitical Tithe (10%/ every year except the Sabbath year)
  • the Festive Tithe (10%/ the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th years of each 7-year cycle)
  • Poor Tithe (10%/ the 3rd and 6th years of each seven-year cycle)

The Levites for their part gave to Aaronic priests 10% of what

the Levites had received of the Levitical Tithe.

Numbers 18:28

28 In this way you will also give an offering to the Lord just as the other Israelites do.

You will get the one-tenth that the Israelites give to the Lord,

and then you will give one-tenth of that to Aaron the priest.

Sabbath year/ Sabbatical year

Every 7th year of release is called a Sabbath year (or Sabbatical year) of

the land in which year tithes were broken-off.

The year 5782 on the Jewish calendar (2021–2022) will be the next Sabbatical year.

These tithes were in reality more like taxes for the people of Israel and

were mandatory, not optional giving.

Yahweh made certain that everyone had food to eat-

Yahweh`s welfare !!

Agricultural land around Mount Tabor, Israel.

Leviticus 25:1-7
The Sabbath of the Seventh Year

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying,

2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:

‘When you come into the land which I give you,

then the land shall keep a sabbath to the Lord.

3 Six years you shall sow your field,

and six years you shall prune your vineyard,

and gather its fruit;

4 but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land,

a sabbath to the Lord.

You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard.

5 What grows of its own accord of your harvest you shall not reap,

nor gather the grapes of your untended vine,

for it is a year of rest for the land.

6 And the sabbath produce of the land shall be food for you:

for you, your male and female servants, your hired man,

and the stranger who dwells with you,

7 for your livestock and the beasts that are in your land—

all its produce shall be for food.

The Old Testament & the Law & the Christianity

Many many many many Christian churches and preachers teach

that the Law is abolished.

It is quite ironic and hypocritical that the same Christian churches

and preachers teach that you must pay them tithes from your income.

It is very very very very popular in Christian churches to teach that

we must tithe 10% of our paycheck to the church.

This teaching is quite popular because it ensures a steady income for the pastors.

But it is NOT biblical !!

Nowhere in the New Testament are we ever told to give a mandatory

10% tithe to Yahweh.

Still less to give a mandatory 10% tithe of money to a church or person…

2 Corinthians 9:7

7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart,

not grudgingly or of necessity;

for God loves a cheerful giver.

Matthew 10:8

Agriculture produces and animals

Only agricultural crops and livestock were presented as tithes and offering

in the Bible.

There were multiple harvests throughout the year in the Promised Land then

and in Israel today.

Leviticus 27:30-32

30 And all the tithe of the land,

whether of the seed of the land

or of the fruit of the tree,

is the Lord’s.

It is holy to the Lord.

31 If a man wants at all to redeem any of his tithes,

he shall add one-fifth to it.

32 And concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock,

of whatever passes under the rod,

the tenth one shall be holy to the Lord.

The Old Testament tells and especially the Torah (Law) instructions concerning

the tithe are always about agriculture produce and animals.

In the Old Testament money was commonly used but the tithes were never money-

neither gold and silver or something like that.

The tithes & the Levites

Through Moses, Yahweh established tithing in Torah (Law) to support Levites

whom He did not give a specific allotment or a specific geographic area

in the Promised land.

He chose the Levites to minister to the children of Israel, and from the Levites,

He chose Aaron’s sons to be priests in the Tent of Meeting.

Kuvahaun tulos haulle tent of meeting images

Numbers 18:21-32
Tithes for Support of the Levites

21 “Behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tithes in Israel

as an inheritance in return for the work which they perform,

the work of the tabernacle of meeting.

22 Hereafter the children of Israel shall not come near the tabernacle of meeting,

lest they bear sin and die.

23 But the Levites shall perform the work of the tabernacle of meeting,

and they shall bear their iniquity;

it shall be a statute forever,

throughout your generations,

that among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.

24 For the tithes of the children of Israel,

which they offer up as a heave offering to the Lord,

I have given to the Levites as an inheritance; therefore I have said to them,

‘Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.’ ”

The Tithe of the Levites

25 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

26 “Speak thus to the Levites, and say to them:

‘When you take from the children of Israel the tithes

which I have given you from them as your inheritance,

then you shall offer up a heave offering of it to the Lord,

a tenth of the tithe.

27 And your heave offering shall be reckoned to you as though it were

the grain of the threshing floor and as the fullness of the winepress.

28 Thus you shall also offer a heave offering to the Lord from all your tithes

which you receive from the children of Israel,

and you shall give the Lord’s heave offering from it to Aaron the priest.

29 Of all your gifts you shall offer up every heave offering due to the Lord,

from all the best of them, the consecrated part of them.’

30 Therefore you shall say to them:

‘When you have lifted up the best of it,

then the rest shall be accounted to the Levites as the produce

of the threshing floor and as the produce of the winepress.

31 You may eat it in any place, you and your households,

for it is your reward for your work in the tabernacle of meeting.

32 And you shall bear no sin because of it,

when you have lifted up the best of it.

But you shall not profane the holy gifts of the children of Israel,

lest you die.’ ”

Kuvahaun tulos haulle tithing is not money

No land inheritance

The Old Testament explains that the tithe was given to the Levites to eat

because they did not receive a land inheritance in the Promised Land.

All of the other tribes were given land, so they could grow crops and raise livestock,

but the Levites were appointed to serve in the Temple in Yerushalayim/ Jerusalem

and did not have any land to grow their own food.

So, God set up the tithes as a way to provide food for the Levites.

Yeshua (Jesus) & tithes

The tithes were for the Levites.

Even today, Jewish rabbis do not collect tithes because they understand

that the tithes were for the Levites serving in the Temple in

Yerushalayim/ Jerusalem- and not for the rabbis in the synagogues.

In fact, Yeshua never received tithes from anyone,

because He was not a Levite and even if tithing was practiced.

Even in the New Testament,

the tithes are always in the context of agriculture produce-

not money.

Matthew 23:23

23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!

For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin,

and have neglected the weightier matters of the law:

justice and mercy and faith.

These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.

Luke 11:42

42 “But woe to you Pharisees!

For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs,

and pass by justice and the love of God.

These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.

Kuvahaun tulos haulle 1 Timothy 6:10

Why do so many preachers impose and require tithes in their churches ??

There are mainly 2 reasons:

In most cases, the preacher has inherited lies too,

and he does not realize that he is taking illegal tithes.

He does it because that is the way it has been done for centuries.

Old lies are hard to overcome.

These preachers need to have their eyes opened to the truth.

However, in some cases, the preacher is greedy and deceptive,

deliberately twisting the Scriptures to their advantage,

and manipulating people into giving them 10% of their income.

These men are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

They prey on the poor when they should pray for the poor !!

They also like to plead on the emotions of the people for example

by twisting the words of Malachi concerning tithes.

Wolf in sheep
Matthew 7:15-16
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse

Malachi 3:10-12

10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,

That there may be food in My house,

And try Me now in this,”

Says the Lord of hosts,

“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven

And pour out for you such blessing

That there will not be room enough to receive it.

11 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,

So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,

Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,”

Says the Lord of hosts;

12 “And all nations will call you blessed,

For you will be a delightful land,”

Says the Lord of hosts.

Malachi is not talking about money !!

“You reap what you sow”, prosperity-gospel preachers also untruthfully say,

“and when you sow the seed of money with God, he’ll reward you abundantly”.

However, when we look at the context of what Malachi was saying,

we see that he was talking about tithes of eatables in the storehouse.

In the Middle East in general and in the Promised Land then and as in Israel

today rain was and is indispensable.

No or little rain during the year brings to pass at least bad year or even famine.

Malachi is not talking about blessing us with money as

the prosperity preachers claim.

He is talking about Yahweh blessing us with an abundance of rain,

agriculture produces and livestock.

In the Middle East and North Africa there have always been and still are

water crisis and even water wars.

Kuvahaun tulos haulle Levites and Temple

The tithes & the Temple in Yerushalayim/ Jerusalem

The biblical tithes were part of the Temple service and were meant for

the Levites and the poor.

The tithes were never given for example to the rabbis or teachers.

Neither the Temple nor the Aaronic priesthood exists today and

so the Levitical Tithe is not valid anymore.

In Acts followers of Yeshua (Jesus) did not tithe anymore.

Not even once.

Census

When the census was taken, it was required that each person give 1 half-shekel

as an offering to the Lord, and it was not based on how much wealth a person had,

but it was a flat tax that everyone paid.

In this particular instance, God specifically asked for money, but this was not a tithe.

This was a specific case in which money was requested by God for taking a census.

However, this money was not to be taken for tithe.

Exodus 30:12-15

12 “When you take the census of the children of Israel for their number,

then every man shall give a ransom for himself to the Lord,

when you number them,

that there may be no plague among them when you number them.

13 This is what everyone among those who are numbered shall give:

half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (a shekel is twenty gerahs).

The half-shekel shall be an offering to the Lord.

14 Everyone included among those who are numbered,

from twenty years old and above,

shall give an offering to the Lord.

15 The rich shall not give more and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel,

when you give an offering to the Lord,

to make atonement for yourselves.

1 exception with money & the tithes

Deuteronomy 14:23-27

23 And you shall eat before the Lord your God,

in the place where He chooses to make His name abide,

the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil,

of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks,

that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.

24 But if the journey is too long for you,

so that you are not able to carry the tithe,

or if the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far from you,

when the Lord your God has blessed you,

25 then you shall exchange it for money,

take the money in your hand,

and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses.

26 And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires:

for oxen or sheep,

for wine or similar drink,

for whatever your heart desires;

you shall eat there before the Lord your God,

and you shall rejoice,

you and your household.

27 You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates,

for he has no part nor inheritance with you.

We can see that the only time money can be used in connection with tithes

is when the journey is too far to carry your agriculture produces and cattle,

then you can sell your tithes for money, and take the money on your journey

so that you can buy food and beverages for your tithe.

Notice also that this Festive Tithe is to be eaten by you,

because it is for you to celebrate the Feasts of Yahweh in the Temple

in Yerushalayim/ Jerusalem, such as Passover, The Feast of Firstfruits,

The Feast of Weeks and The Feast of Tabernacles.

of that year and store it up within your gates.

29 And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you,

Because most of us are not farmers, some have not taken into account that there were multiple harvests throughout the year in the Promised Land then and in Israel today.

Yeshua (Jesus) told us:

Matthew 25:35-46

35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food;

I was thirsty and you gave Me drink;

I was a stranger and you took Me in;

36 I was naked and you clothed Me;

I was sick and you visited Me;

I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying,

‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You,

or thirsty and give You drink?

38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in,

or naked and clothe You?

39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’

40 And the King will answer and say to them,

‘Assuredly, I say to you,

inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren,

you did it to Me.’

41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand,

‘Depart from Me, you cursed,

into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food;

I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;

43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in,

naked and you did not clothe Me,

sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying,

‘Lord, when did we see You hungry

or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison,

and did not minister to You?’

45 Then He will answer them, saying,

‘Assuredly, I say to you,

inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these,

you did not do it to Me.’

46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment,

but the righteous into eternal life.”

The Words of Yeshua (Jesus)- enough said !!

Giving to the local congrecation

1 Corinthians 9:6-14

6 Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working?

7 Who ever goes to war at his own expense?

Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit?

Or who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock?

8 Do I say these things as a mere man?

Or does not the law say the same also?

9 For it is written in the law of Moses,

“You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.”

Is it oxen God is concerned about?

10 Or does He say it altogether for our sakes?

For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that he who plows should plow in hope,

and he who threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11 If we have sown spiritual things for you,

is it a great thing if we reap your material things?

12 If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more?

Nevertheless we have not used this right,

but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ.

13 Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things

of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar?

14 Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live

from the gospel.

Donations

If you are capable, you can help the disadvantaged locals-

the stranger and the fatherless and the widow and the poor who are within

your neighbourhood.

If Yahweh does lay it on your heart !!

Kuvahaun tulos haulle Zechariah 7:10

If you are capable, and if there is a local biblical ministry that is helping you to grow

in your knowledge of the Bible and your faith,

then you can support that ministry because without adequate support

that ministry perhaps will not be able to sustain itself.

If you are capable, you can give and help others in need, especially if they are doing

work as the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers.

If you are capable, and someone is dedicating his life to teaching and spreading

the truth of the Bible, you can give a donation to help and support the work.

Any gift you give to support this kind of a ministry is a love gift-

and you are free to give any amount you desire.

But, you are not obligated to give 10% of your income.

Don’t let pastors, leaders or others pressure you to fund building or

programs Yahweh does not lay on your heart !!

This type of giving is not reluctantly or under compulsion but is done out of

a desire to help and from free will.

And only, if Yahweh does lay it on your heart !!

However, this type of support is not  giving tithes or tithing.
